EZBudget (“we,” “us”) is a personal and family budgeting app. This page explains what data we collect, how it’s used, and how it’s protected. It is written to reflect what the product actually does today, not aspirational commitments.
Data from your linked bank and credit accounts is used solely to power your own budgets, spending categorization, reports, and goal tracking inside your account. We do not sell, share, or use your financial data for advertising, and we do not use it to power any other user’s experience — except within a shared family budget, described below.
Sensitive fields — transaction amounts and merchants, account balances, and the credentials used to maintain your bank connection — are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption with keys managed by AWS KMS. Your connection to your bank via Plaid is read-only: EZBudget can view transactions and balances, but cannot move money or initiate any transaction.
Encryption at rest protects your data against database or backup compromise. It does not make EZBudget a “zero-knowledge” service — like any app built on Plaid’s standard integration, the application itself necessarily processes your transaction data in order to display it to you.
If we ever confirm a security incident that exposed your data, we will notify affected users without unreasonable delay, consistent with applicable data breach notification law.
If you join or create a shared family budget, other members of that family can see the transactions, accounts, budgets, and goals shared within it. Only join a family with people you intend to share that information with.
We share data with Plaid (to establish and maintain your bank connection) and with Google or Facebook (to authenticate your sign-in) as necessary to provide the service. We also use AWS Key Management Service to manage the encryption keys described above; AWS handles only opaque key material, never your transaction or account data directly. We do not sell your data to third parties or share it for advertising purposes.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. EZBudget does not currently have a self-serve option to delete your account or data from the app. To request deletion of your account, linked bank connections, or personal data, contact us and we will process the request manually.
We may update this policy as the product changes. We’ll update the date at the top of this page when we do.
Questions about this policy or a request to delete your data can be sent to the email address associated with your EZBudget invitation.
